PHOTO EDITING BASICS

When we take a picture with a digital camera, we are already making certain choices in terms of file format (RAW vs JPG), exposure and the white balance at the time of taking the photo. In most cases, however, the image is not immediately perfect but requires further processing in photo editing software. In this chapter, we will cover how to adjust the light, contrast, and color correction of an image.

In addition, we discuss layers, what they are and how they can be used. Understanding and using layer structures correctly is an integral part of the photo editing process.

Knowing how to work with layers and how to do a color correction to your photo will provide you essential tools to deepen your skills in the next chapter.
